Jordan Rudess Merges Classical Music, Rock, and Technology in Crowdsourcing Project

You may know Jordan Rudess as the keyboard wizard in progressive metal band Dream Theater, but did you also know that he studied classical piano at Juilliard when he was nine years old? Rudess will combine both sides of his musical personality in his first solo project in three years, Explorations.  But this new venture will be much more than just an album. Fans will have the opportunity not only to listen to Jordan’s orchestral composition, “Explorations” and his solo piano album, Explores as a CD or digital download, but also to interact with these works through an iOS app. What’s more, fans can help their favorite keyboard wiz fund his project through the crowdsourcing site, PledgeMusic.

The orchestral piece “Explorations” will include an entirely virtual orchestral experience. Jordan and his team will capture both audio and visual recordings of the orchestral musicians to create a unique, visual experience. The solo piano album, Explores, will be a completely interactive iOS app which will allow users to play a duet with Jordan or add their own personal touches to his music.

You might be wondering why a big-name musician is reaching out to fans to fund his album. Two simple words-creative freedom. “Things have changed so much in the music business in recent years. Now we have the possibility of coming directly to all of you, the fans, to get involved and to be a part of making this happen,” Jordan explains. “No longer are we subject to what was, rather, what is possible!”

Pledgers will get to experience exclusive videos, tracks, photos, and blogs following the making of the album, as well as early access to the full album before its general release date. Those who wish to contribute a little extra funding may receive all types of interesting goodies such as a signed copy of the album ($25), a phone call with Jordan ($100) or a house concert ($10,000).

As of today, The Explore Project is 75% of the way to its goal, with 22 days left. You can hear more about it from the man himself in the video below. And to pledge your support, visit www.pledgemusic.com/jordanrudess
