The Piano Guys’ Cello/Piano Cover of ‘Lord of the Rings’ Hits All the Right Notes

The Piano Guys have gained popularity by covering songs from Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, and Bruno Mars, just to name a few. Now, the ensemble is celebrating reaching 1 million subscribers by covering their most requested work – Lord of the Rings. According to the duo’s YouTube page, their arrangement of LOTR was an intimidating, drawn-out process during which they “studied the music of The Lord of the Rings, contemplated what seems to incorporate, how they could tell the story by flowing from one to another”.

The video features John Schmidt on acoustic piano and Stephen Sharp Nelson on acoustic and electric cello. Musical themes include melodies from “The Elves”, “The Ents”, “Rohan” (which happens to be my favorite… I love the percussive effects!), “Mordor and Isengard”, “Hobbits”, and “Gondor”. The video was filmed in front of some incredible scenery entirely in The Piano Guys’ home state of Utah.

The Piano Guys’ latest album is available by clicking The Piano Guys. In the meantime, check out the video below.
