I’m a violin teacher at the Music Institute of Chicago. When I went to our website today, I was excited to learn that the STARZ TV show Boss filmed at Nichols Concert Hall in our Evanston campus on May 14. The show features 2011 Golden Globe winner Kelsey Grammer as Tom Kane, the fictitious mayor of Chicago. Nichols Concert Hall will be used as the setting for a political debate.
The concert hall, formerly the First Church of Christ, Scientist, was built in 1912. The Greek revival exterior and 500-seat sanctuary was designed by architect Solon S. Beman. It is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and was awarded the Landmark Preservation Council of Illinois’ Richard H. Driehaus award for adaptive reuse when it became Nichols concert Hall in 2003.
The episode featuring Nichols Concert Hall will air as part of Boss‘ second season, which begins August 17.
