Happy New Year! 2011 was one heck of year, wouldn’t you agree? Between Charlie Sheen, Middle East unrest, the downfall of Osama Bin Laden, the tragic nuclear disaster in Japan, it was an eventful year. The true 2011 bright spot was the abundance of awesome tunes from Megadeth, Dream Theater, Mastodon, Chickenfoot, Anthrax and several others (too many to name all of them). The classical music scene continued to evolve as orchestras decided to finally embrace the social web. I can only speculate what will come in 2012.
If you believe my ancestors (yes, I have Mayan blood in me), then we won’t see the end of this year. Let’s hope my long lost relatives just ran out of room and didn’t have enough time to upgrade the calendar before civilization of the day ended, changed or whatever… Of course, trying to pick a U.S. President this year just might cause the collapse of civilization as we know it.
There is one thing I can promise in 2012: we will have an abundance of stupid ass political ads, robocalls and mailings. Doesn’t matter what party you prefer, it will all drive you nuts. Maybe the Ramones will rise from the grave and update “Anarchy in the U.K.” with a U.S. version. I have a feeling anarchy might be the result, but we shall see.
One thing I can always count on every year, an awesome “Year in Review” video by the good folks at JibJab. Adios 2011, you were interesting.
