Will Vince Neil Be on Thin Ice on ABC’s Skating with the Stars?

As a huge Dancing with the Stars fan, I’ve been ticked off with ABC’s casting choices this season. Let’s just say that I was less than pleased that two cast members in particular were not actual celebrities. I was so angry that I haven’t watched the show all season, which has been torture for a DWTS addict like me. And then I heard about another questionable ABC programming choice, Skating with the Stars. I had decided that this show would also be too ridiculous for me to watch, but then I came across two articles on Bravewords.com and LasVegasweekly.com which just might change my mind. Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil is one of the six brave celebrities who will be venturing out on the ice. Believe it or not, Neil has previous figure skating experience:

“I was a figure skater when I was 12”, says Neil. “When they called the people in my office were laughing but I told them, I actually used to skate. I haven’t skated for a long, long time. I like to do things that sound like fun and this sounds like fun.

He’s also a great student, according to his 25-year-old skating instructor/partner Jennifer Wester:

“… When I learned I was getting the bad boy of rock, I thought it was over before it began, but he’s been the good boy of ice-skating… He’s learned and practiced and learned and practiced again and again until it hurts. He really has a shot if he keeps studying and rehearsing like this. I’d heard his reputation, but Vince is completely different to that – and he’ll have the opportunity to show that side of him to viewers.”

Watching Neil’s butt smacking against ice may be enough incentive to make me watch the show, but when I heard that ice-skating rebel Johnny Weir will be one of the judges, I became downright intrigued. According to this article on People.com, Weir is looking forward to being a strict judge:

I’m all for the theatrics and beauty of figure skating, but at the same time, I’m an Olympian twice-over… I’m going to judge the technique the way it should be judged.

Curmudgeonly skating commentator Dick Button joins Weir at the judging table. He’s mean enough to real ice skaters during his commentary, so I can only imagine what he’ll say to the celebrities.

Other celebrities on SWTS will include The Real Housewives of New York City’s Bethenny Frankel, former Olympic ski champ Johnny Mosley, soap opera star Rebecca Budig, actress Sean Young, and Disney Channel’s Brandon Michael Smith. Tune in on November 22 to watch the chaos.
