One of the greatest losses in the metal world this year was the death of Ronnie James Dio, who died six months ago after losing his battle with stomach cancer. Adored by metal fans for decades, his memory lives on in our hearts through the music he left behind. In memory of her late husband, Wendy Dio has donated $100,000 to the T.J. Martell Foundation for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research.
The donation will fund a research program for stomach cancer that will bear the Dio name. At the foundation’s 35th annual awards fete, Wendy Dio encouraged the audience and participants to have cancer screenings and checkups and to look after their health.
The donation was made during the35th Annual Awards Gala in support of the T.J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research. Overall, the T.J. Martell foundation raked in nearly 1.5 million at the event. Artists Colbie Caillat, Enrique Iglesias, 3 Doors Down, Erin McCarley, Kenny Loggins and Charlie Daniels performed for the crowd of music and entertainment leaders, business and media executives, and celebrities.
