Dream Theater’s Jordan Rudess to Premiere Keyboard and Orchestra Composition in Venezuela

I so wish that I could travel to Venezuela next month. According to Bravewords.com, Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess will be premiering his first composition for orchestra, Explorations for Keyboard and Orchestra. The concert will also include Dream Theater music including Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. The performance will take place at Centro Cultural Corp Banca at Plaza La Castellana, Caracas on Friday, November 19. Although this show is sold out, a second one has just been added at 10:30 PM on the same evening. Tickets go on sale between October 18 and 20th.

The Juilliard-trained pianist has dabbled in classical music before on his solo album, Notes on a Dream (featuring classical piano arrangements of DT tunes along with original compositions). But this will be his first full-blown classical composition. According to Rudess:

It is a forward thinking composition fusing my classical and progressive/metal sensitivities, but also progressive and I will be playing a keyboard connected to an Apple MacBook Pro running mainstage software… I personally invite all of my fans and Venezuela to come to this concert and experience Dream Theater’s music in a symphonic setting. Imagine the power of Dream Theater’s music realized by full string,  wind, brass, and percussion sections! Dream Theater’s fans in Venezuela are some of the most passionate fans we have and their classical orchestras are renowned throughout the world. That’s why have chosen Venezuela to premiere my first symphonic work.”

Rudess will play all of the keyboard/synthesizer parts, accompanied by the Chacao Youth Symphony Orchestra. Turkish musician Eren Basburg will conduct the orchestra. Rudess discovered him through a YouTube video in which Basburg had assembled an orchestra to perform his own arrangements of several Dream Theater pieces.

If, like me, you’re unable to attend the concert and want to know about a recording of the event, you’ll have to wait a little while. Rudess tweeted yesterday, “Everyone is asking about releasing/recording Explorations. I will let everyone know the moment I figure it out!!”
