As Contrapuntist mentioned in a previous post, we were fortunate enough to attend a performance at Ravinia Festival by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project. The outstanding concert began with a performance of “Ascending Bird”, an arrangement of a Persian folk song by Silk Road Project members Colin Jacobsen and Siamak Aghaei, which tells the mythical tale of a bird attempting to fly to the sun. The performance touched me so deeply that I would like to share a video of the piece with you.
