Wendy Morgan and The Vocal Gymnasium will host a jazz concert to benefit the North Branch of the Evanston Public Library at 7:00 PM on July 8 at the Music Institute of Chicago‘s Nichols Concert Hall. The concert is one of several fundraisers sparked by the City of Evanston’s decision to cut funding for branch libraries in order to close their $9.5 million budget gap.
According to The Daily Northwestern, on June 28, the Evanston City Council voted 7-2 to allow the city’s branch libraries to remain open until at least February. This was a response to the Evanston Public Library Friends‘ previous fund-raising effort to raise $171,000 to cover operating costs past the original August date on which the city had planned to cancel the lease for the South Branch Library.
Wendy Morgan (vocals) will perform with Don Stiernberg (mandolin/guitar), Dean Rolando (piano), and Stuart Miller (bass). A wine and cheese reception for the Evanston Friends of the Library will take place at 6:15 PM. The concert will take place at 7:00 PM. There will also be a silent auction, and the winners will be announced at the end of the performance. The concert will be followed by a post-show party in the lobby.
Tickets at the door are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Nichols Concert Hall is located at 1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston, IL 60201. For more information, please contact The Vocal Gymnasium.
