When the news hit the airwaves about the sudden passing of Avenged Sevenfold‘s drummer, James “The Rev” Sullivan, Viola and I were in the middle of traveling back home to Chicago. I’ve become a fan of the band in the past few years, so when I was catching up on news late last night and read the headlines, I was stunned.
Blabbermouth posted comments by Mike Portnoy, the drummer from Dream Theater, about the sudden passing of Sullivan:
“Absolutely shocking… What a sad loss…
“The Rev and I exchanged many emails/texts through the years. He always mentioned me in interviews and cited me as a favorite and an influence and I was always flattered by that.
“I thought he was a great drummer and I’ve been an AVENGED SEVENFOLD fan for a few years now.
“What a tragedy and my heart and prayers go out to his band and family.”
I send my heart out to the band and the Sullivan family.
