I recently read a couple of interesting posts about two sides of the same coin – musical injuries, and musical healing. It’s ironic how something that can bring so much pleasure can also bring so much pain.
On Noisecreep.com, there’s a post about heavy metal band Slayer‘s announcement that they will be postponing their upcoming Canadian Carnage Tour with Megadeth, as well as an upcoming appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live show. From the website:
The cause for the deferments? Frontman Tom Araya is currently under the care of a specialist for a back injury doctors think may be related to his onstage activities. He’s been ordered to undergo an immediate surgical procedure to repair the problem….
“What is foremost in our minds right now is that Tom do whatever he needs to to get this taken care of,” says Slayer’s Kerry King. “While all four of us are disappointed that we won’t be able to see through all of our commitments set for the next few weeks, the most important thing is Tom’s health. We thank the fans in Canada and here in L.A., the Megadeth camp, and everyone associated with ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ for their understanding. We look forward to seeing you all soon.”
Meanwhile, there is a great interview on Rockom.net with Himalayan/Tibetan bowl sound healer Diáne Mandle. Here’s an excerpt:
Diáne: Healing through sound is a movement from disharmony to harmony, a spiritual awakening with a profound impact on the physical body. As we awaken and our perspective shifts, a domino effect ensues that also shifts our vibration and our cellular make up. The shifts cannot occur as separate entities – they affect the whole of who we are and extend infinitely. This transformation of consciousness is the foundational principle of the Himalayan Singing Bowls. Tuned to the vibrational frequency of AUM, the sound of universal perfection, their sound reawakens in us our connection to the universe. Their frequencies gently penetrate and calm the body/mind, balance the hemispheres of the brain, initiate the relaxation response and decrease, fatigue, pain, stiffness, and emotional tension.
Have a great weekend everyone, and stay healthy!
