With all the talk about the stimulus package and economic plunder, it has everyone trying to make sense of it all. Plus, let’s not forget that our financial system was forgiven with TARP even though they committed legalized fraud which then caused a “credit crunch.” We are all trying to come to grips with the causes and effects from everything that has taken place.
Is it possible that Megadeth could help us decipher our economic crisis? Over the weekend, I updated my copy of Megadeth’s Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying from cassette to CD. Megadeth is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite bands with Dave Mustaine as one of my guitar heroes. How can you not appreciate the politically charged lyrics?
Here are a few tracks that resonate with me that might help us make sense of this economic fiasco. I may be interpreting them wrong, but tell me what you think.
For our arrogance in thinking we know more than we do: I Thought I Knew It All
Somewhere there’s a reason
Why things go like they do
Somewhere there’s a reason
Why somethings just fall through
We don’t always see them
For what they really are
But I know there’s a reason,
Just can’t see it from this farMaybe I don’t like it, but I have no choice
I know that somewhere, someone hears my voiceI thought I knew it all
I thought I had it made
How could it end this way?
I thought I knew
In homage to “golden age” of real estate: Foreclosure of a Dream
Rise so high, yet so far to fall.
A plan of dignity and balance for all.
Political breakthrough, euphorias high.
More borrowed money, more borrowed time.
Backed in a corner, caught up in the race.
Means to an end ended in disgrace.
Perspective is lost in the spirit of the chase.Foreclosure of a dream,
Those visions never seen,
Until all is lost,
Personal holocaust.
Foreclosure of a dream.
Thank you to all the dumb ass banks for putting us through this ride: Train of Consequences
I’m doing you a favor
As I’m taking all your money
I guess I should feel sorry
But I don’t even trust me
There’s bad news creeping up
And you feel a sudden chill
How do you do? My name is Trouble
I’m coming in for the kill…
In for the kill
And you know I willSet the ball a-rollin
I’ll be clicking off the miles
On the train of consequences
My boxcar life o’ style
My thinking is derailed
I’m tied up to the tracks
The train of consequences
There ain’t no turning back
Our previous president conducted this nice little tune: Symphony of Destruction
You take a mortal man,
And put him in control
Watch him become a god,
Watch peoples heads aroll
Aroll…Just like the pied piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes,
Swaying to the symphony…
Of destruction
If only we had finished one war and avoided another: Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?
What do you mean, “I don’t believe in God”?
I talk to him every day.
What do you mean, “I don’t support your system”?
I go to court when I have to.
What do you mean, “I can’t get to work on time”?
I got nothing better to do
And, what do you mean, “I don’t pay my bills”?
Why do you think I’m broke? Huh?If there’s a new way,
I’ll be the first in line.
But, it better work this time. What do you mean, “I hurt your feelings”?
I didn’t know you had any feelings.
What do you mean, “I ain’t kind”?
I’m just not your kind.
What do you mean, “I couldn’t be the president of the United States of America”?Tell me something, it’s still “We the people”, right?
If there’s a new way
I’ll be the first in line,
But, it better work this time. Can you put a price on peace?
Peace,
Peace sells…,
Peace,
Peace sells…,
Peace sells…,but who’s buying?
